As part of our commitment to provide our students with innovative learning opportunities, students in grades 5th and up are required to bring a technology device for academic purposes. To help your child meet classroom demands, our device recommendation by grade level are as follow: 
  • 5th -8th → Tablets: Ipads or Android, Chromebooks
  • 9th - 12 → Laptop or Macbook

In general, the device for school use should:
  • Be identified appropriately (labeled);
  • Have several hours of battery life and easy options for recharging;
  • Have wireless capabilities and appropriate software;
  • Have a screen size greater than 7 inches;
  • Support Flash technology; and

Equipment Minimum Recommended Specifications:

Laptops/Macbooks

  • Processor: Intel i7 Dual Core or Intel i5
  • RAM: Minimum 4GB
  • Screen: 11″ or bigger
  • Battery: Recommended Minimum of 5 hours
  • Antivirus: Recommended
  • Operating System: Windows 8.1 or higher / OS X 10.9 (or better)
  • Hard Drive: Solid State Drive (SSD) recommended

Chromebooks

  • Ram:   4GB to 8GB
  • Storage:   32GB and up
  • Screen Size:   11.6″ or bigger
  • Battery Life:   Up to 10 Hours

Android Tablets or Ipads

  • Greater than  7” screen display with at least 1024 x 768 resolution
  • Quad-core processor - 1.3GHz  or higher
  • 16GB internal storage plus microSD slot

Important considerations:

  • The students/families are responsible for obtaining and installing all necessary applications on their devices. As well as for troubleshooting hardware problems.
  • Any of the major operating systems such as Windows, Apple OS, Google Chrome OS, Linux, are acceptable as long as the device can connect wirelessly to our network.
  • Students will be encouraged to use applications of their choice to complete assignments/projects rather than using school-mandated software. Required software capabilities are word processing, video editing, graphics editing, spreadsheet software, and presentation software which were already provided for through their school email accounts.
  • At the beginning of the school year teachers will inform students of the types of software/apps necessary for each particular subject and will indicate the file-type that students are to use for submitting work.
  • Students will not be required to purchase any software, but may need to install freeware or create free online accounts at the teacher’s request.  Our Technology department will review any such request from teachers to ensure that the products are educationally sound and technically free from problems.
  • The student should follow the classroom teacher’s instruction on appropriate times to use their devices and saving their work in a suitable, compatible format before submission.
