MCSchool encourages the promotion of meaningful learning experiences. In order to achieve it, the school has designed learning environments deliberately organized to attend to the varied developmental and cognitive needs emerging from students’ differing experiences, talents, learning styles, and family situations. This requires the creation and maintenance of flexible educational environments that can provide a range of opportunities for success.

Teachers promote active in-depth learning organized around common goals, as they focus on authentic performance. They pay careful attention to student development. At MCSchool teachers show an appreciation for diversity; they encourage collaborative learning, structures for caring, support for democratic  learning, and connections to family and community.

A multicultural approach to education explicitly includes a range of experiences, views, and representations of human thought in all aspects of the curriculum, from literature and the arts through science, mathematics, and technology. A multicultural approach can help students develop an analytic frame for life in a democracy, seeing problems and ideas from many vantage points and appreciating the many views that social life comprises.

In order to achieve the performance level expected for each grade, teachers must create engaging, positive, and effective learning environments. These environments should:

  • Actively involve all students in performing meaningful learning activities through a variety of challenging and attainable tasks.

  • Emphasize the teaching of deeper understanding through a problem-solving approach.

  • Include the use of concrete materials, representations, and real-life applications in all grades.

  • Require the use of a variety of technological tools.

  • Be rigorous enough to assist all students in achieving the benchmarks expected for each grade.
