Community Service Activities
2008-2009

The Community Service is part of MCSchool education, providing students the opportunity to practice basic values taught through our “wise skills” program. Therefore, the Elementary School requested students’ participation in community service activities, to promote respect for life, and become an essential part of society.

The school offered support to each activity planned in making all the necessary arrangements to successfully fulfilled all community service projects. Parents involved actively in the organization and development of the chosen community service.

The First grade teachers and students organized a Haunted House and raised $6060 pesos to help the elder living at the “Asilo San Francisco de Asis”. They also worked in a campaign to collect donations throughout the Elementary school. These donations included: pampers, milk, rice, pasta, among others.

The Second Grade Team conducted a raffle, and raised $56327 pesos to help Escuela Hogar Pituka Flores. This is a Home-School that provides lunch and schooling to 410 students in the ages 3-10. The money was used to supply much needed resources such as: uniforms, cleaning items and food.

The Third grade students raised $27500 pesos selling key chains containing a quote related to the value of the month “Relationships”. Funds were used to buy instructional resources, books and classroom supplies for “Escuela Felipe Soto” located in Villa Altagracia. Our students visited the school and conducted different activities that were planned for the children at this school.

The Fourth Grade class planned a campaign to educate the school community to take care of the environment. They collected plastic bottles and papers to motivate people recycle.  They visited “Compañía de Electricidad de San Pedro de Macorís” where they learned how energy is recycled. Parents, teachers and students went to Juan Dolio beach to pick up garbage or recycled materials that would have negative effects in our environment.

The Fifth Grade made and sold gift cards and undertook the project to help a needy orphanage, Hogar Escuela Rosa Duarte, which houses 120 girls between the ages of 4 to 15 and provides education to 300 children. The Fifth Grade raised 20,000 pesos and bought bed sheets and hygiene products for the girls.

The Elementary School contributed through these activities helping students become responsible members of an ever-wider community as they value and appreciate what they have. The School will continue to encourage and expose students to collaborate with significant social issues and give to those in need.
